It is not even the beginning of the video and I already find it pretty stellar that you gave this music video its own video player (In the sense you could move forward or go back on the progress bar. I have no knowledge on how easy or difficult that was to set up, but it really helps the music video stand on its own).
For the music video itself, while it does look pretty rough, you used it to your advantage and made it look like a stylistic choice. The art and animation, while seemingly simple, shows that a living being really put their heart and soul into this, and that there was a plentiful amount of effort being put into this music video, especially with the way you tried to make all of these dynamic scenes with the simple stick figures (The most notable ones that come to mind are the fighting scenes and everyone walking by while the main stick figure sits down and smokes). The backgrounds consisting of self-made digital art and heavily edited photographs/videos of the real world blend in nicely with the overall animation, art and tone the music video has.
The song itself is what I would like to describe as having a bittersweet tone to it, especially with the way these lyrics were written. From what I have gathered, it is about a man that tries to face his inner demons/ solve his inner turmoils while struggling to move on with his own life, wanting to follow through with his ambitions and promises as well. This is also combined with his motive to help people and not make them end up the same way he did, a struggling man facing the issues of his past. The instrumental of the song (while sounding like an anime intro) contrasts with the tragic lyrics the song has by adding in a somewhat hopeful tone, giving off the feeling that one day, the main singer will eventually follow through on his commitments and will eventually live in a better state of life.
I related a little too much with these lyrics (minus the substance use parts), as sometimes my own fears, past actions, or something else along those lines have also prevented me from doing the things I have wanted to do/loved to do (essentially enjoying life a little less than I should). I have always promised myself I would follow through on my own promises and get through all of the things I have wanted to do, but I would easily break them and feel the eventual guilt of putting something off for too long… such as writing this (I wanted to write a review for this months ago but never got to). Relistening this made this more impactful since I never expected to relate to a song this much, as well as the feeling that this music video would look like something I would make out of boredom, down to even the similar monotone-like voice. While the vocals could have been improved to fit with the range of the song, I like the way you handled them since it reinforces the idea that one guy put all of his heart into making this music video, while also fitting with the ruggedness of this music video perfectly.
Overall, the music video was scrappy in the best way possible, making good use of what you made and connecting it all brilliantly. I gave this 4/5 stars months ago, and I am going to keep it that way. Everything about this was magnificent.
